Subject: Good news from MA-SEC — please forward
The leadership of the Massachusetts Sibling Exploratory Committee has some exciting news to share.
First, we have a new name! We’d like to congratulate Beth Crosby of Community Resources for People with Autism, the winner of our name contest. Our new name is Massachusetts Sibling Support Network (MSSN), and we’re looking forward to developing our mission to support siblings of people with disabilities across Massachusetts. For her winning submission, Beth received a hand-made bracelet from Weiswoman Creations. Thanks to everyone who submitted names — we appreciated your creativity and interest.
Second, we had a wonderful turnout at our book-signing and networking event on May 20th at Barnes & Noble in Burlington, MA. Three authors read from Thicker Than Water, a compilation of essays written by adult siblings, and the author of The Special Needs Planning Guide presented her work as well. Neal Goodman of Cambridge Family and Children’s Service was the raffle recipient of a gift card to Barnes & Noble. Congratulations, Neal!
Lastly, over the summer we plan to review the organizational structure and key roles of MSSN, and we will resume our regular meetings in September 2010. As a reminder, our goals are threefold: to educate the community about issues faced by siblings of brothers and sisters with disabilities; to create welcoming communities for siblings of all ages within Massachusetts; and to improve the range and availability of services for siblings across the lifespan.
Stay tuned and best wishes for a happy and healthy summer.
