Katie Arnold, SLN’s Executive Director, was honored by the Association of Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) as the Young Professional of the Year. Katie’s advocacy, commitment and promise was commended.
Katie’s passion for working with people with disabilities stems from her experience with her sister who has an intellectual disability. Katie recognized a need to support other siblings of people with disabilities and has enthusiastically worked to develop the national Sibling Leadership Network. When she sees an unmet need, she is quick to offer her expertise and leadership. Since 2002, Katie has worked at the Institute on Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago (IL’s UCEDD) serving as a bridge between academia and the disability community.
In the past year alone, Katie has educated over 1,000 individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals as well as graduate students in her role as the Director of Community Education. She has authored 18 publications on topics such as family support and self-directed supports including peer reviewed journal articles, research papers, curricula, newsletter articles and blogs. Katie is an outstanding young professional who is highly deserving of the Association’s award.
Congratulations, Katie! We are proud of you and grateful for the work you do!
