Greetings to SLN members and supporters and best wishes for a good 2014.
It is now that leadership changes on the SLN Board of Directors and for the next year, I am honored to serve as Chair. Please know that the conscientious Executive Committee (Vice Chair Barb Sapharas; Treasurer Tamar Heller; Secretary Angela Martin, and Out-Going Chair Shea Tanis) will stay on top of advancing issues important to siblings of people who have disabilities. Additionally, the opportunity to work with Katie Arnold, our Executive Director, is inspiring. The future looks bright!!
The entire SLN Board is a committed group who share a profound respect for our brothers and sisters. And as corny as it may sound, it is the love of our siblings and the connection that cannot be defined in typical ways that makes me proud to be a part of SLN. So much of my work in disability has been about what’s right and what’s fair. The incongruities can wear on a soul. Yet it is my brother and my relationships with others in this sibling movement that spurred a lifelong dedication to social justice.
Please join me in appreciating the multitude of experiences we have as sibling and sibling supporters. I believe the Sibling Leadership Network is the perfect place to organize our competence at honoring our loved ones and at their direction, continue the quest for a better, more just tomorrow.
