Sibling Policy Forums were held in March 2014 by the Institute on Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Thanks to the community partners on this project including:
- The Sibling Leadership Network
- Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters, Inc.
- The Arc of Illinois
- The Autism Project of Illinois
The Sibling Policy Forums were funded by the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
A Sibling Advocacy Toolkit was developed through this project with relevant information on policy and advocacy for siblings. Tools include research and policy briefs, sample letters to policymakers, sibling talking points, and steps to share one’s story.
A policy whitepaper was developed that provides recommendations for disability policy that will improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.
Also, Policy Videos were developed from the project. Siblings of people with disabilities discussed relevant policy issues and shared their sibling perspectives. Take a look at the videos below.
