SLN Members Take Part in Families Special Interest Group of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

News

From Sandy Magaña, Ph.D., MSW:
The Families Special Interest Group of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) had a great turnout at the 2019 IASSIDD Conference in Glasgow!  Two Sibling Leadership Network members, Dr. Tamar Heller and Dr. Caya Chiu, attended. We counted 19 sessions on family-related topics and at least 72 different presentations and posters.  There were 3 sessions and 14 presentations and posters on siblings.  A couple of points related to siblings were discussed at our meeting. We would like to do regular webinars about families of people with IDD and a webinar on siblings would be great! There were 2 graduate students from the UK interested in taking the lead on developing this.  We also discussed developing a special issue of the Journal on Policy and Practice for Intellectual Disabilities (JPPID) focused on global family perspectives. Articles on siblings for this issue would be important.
