Florida Sibling Alliance’s leader, Sylvia Collazo, shares her observations during Autism Awareness Month

General

Meet my “why”. My big sister, Barby, is one of my most favorite people in the world. She laughs easily and loves deeply. She delights in fun company and enjoys good food. Like me, she shares a passion for dancing and anything purple. Growing up with a sibling with autism certainly brought many challenges, but it also offered me the opportunity for learning incredible life lessons.

Through her life, Barby has taught me to find joy in the smallest things, to value every incremental step, and to be grateful for all I have. She reminds me to savor each moment and lean on my faith, even when things get hard. She is far from perfect, but I have never wanted to change a thing. She is my sister, and I am grateful for her.
