SLN Joins in a Letter to the CDC for Vaccine Prioritization

The Sibling Leadership has joined various other disability and medical advocacy groups in signing a letter targeted specifically to the CDC asking them to move people with developmental disabilities into Tier 1b of vaccination prioritization. People with developmental disabilities, are at higher risk than the general public, and vaccine prioritization should be based on mortality risk from COVID-19, rather than where someone lives or works. Our siblings often rely on caregivers, both professional support workers and family caregivers, on a daily basis in order to maintain their livelihood. They do not have the luxury to social distance because they need the assistance of others to complete daily activities of living. Our society has a moral imperative to protect and advocate for those who are most vulnerable. There is a lot more work that needs to be done. If you would like to get involved in your local community or on a federal level, please reach out to the SLN Policy and Advocacy Committee. Siblings offer a unique perspective, and now is the time when we can use our voices to advocate for the safety of our brothers and sister.
