George Mason University Research Opportunity

This study, “Painting the Future Together,” is a project at George Mason University aiming to understand how Asian families support their family members with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including intellectual disabilities, autism, or cerebral palsy, during significant life transitions.Β These transitions encompass moving from early intervention to preschool special education, entering elementary school, or graduating from school.

Participants must be over 18 years old and identify as family members (parents, siblings, extended family) of children or young adults with IDD, or be young adults with IDD themselves. They must identify as being of East Asian or Southeast Asian heritage, specifically Taiwanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Filipino, Thai, Japanese, or Korean. A family member with IDD must have undergone a significant life transition in the U.S. Participants must be able to communicate in English or Mandarin Chinese.

Interested participants should fill out a Google Form to indicate their interest. The investigator will then contact them to schedule a 10-minute video conference. During this meeting, the study will be explained, eligibility confirmed, and necessary support identified. Participants can decide whether or not to participate after reviewing the informed consent materials.
