Our Partnership with The Arc
The SLN is pleased to have a partnership with The Arc that began in July 2011. The Arc’s mission is to “promote and protect the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.”
Together, The Arc and the SLN seek to collaborate on various initiatives that promote the shared vision and values for siblings of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
The Arc has formed the National Sibling Council. If you are a member of The Arc, please consider joining the National Sibling Council. Additionally, if you are a member of The Arc, but have not yet joined the SLN, we invite you to become a member!
Highlights from The Arc/SLN Partnership:
- The Arc’s peer learning communities: The SLN presented on sibling services and supports and provided resources to participants. The SLN also offered information on forming new SLN state chapters.
- Webinars with Autism NOW!: Autism NOW, an initiative of The Arc, is the National Autism Resource and Information Center that is a central point of quality resources and information for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, their families, and other targeted key stakeholders. SLN members contributed to a webinar series by giving several webinars on sibling issues. Check out Autism NOW’s website for the archived seminars.
- Disability Policy Seminar: The Arc and SLN have co-hosted a Sibling Meet and Greet at the Disability Policy Seminar for the past two years. For more information and resources, including our Sibling Policy Brief, click here.
