The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) has been a strong supporter of the SLN. The SLN continues to grow and partner with leading national organizations in the arena of disability to fulfill our mission of providing siblings of individuals with disabilities the information, support and tools to advocate with their brothers and sisters and to promote the issues important to them and their families throughout the lifespan. There is an emerging recognition and respect nationally for the unique role that siblings play in the lives of people with disabilities and the contributions they make to the development and application of services and supports.
The SLN is grateful to AAIDD for sponsoring the 2013 SLN National Conference, and AAIDD will again be a key sponsor at the 2015 SLN National Conference, to be held in conjunction with the AAIDD Conference in Louisville, KY.
This year, AAIDD‘s 138th Annual Meeting will be held in Orlando, FL from June 23-26. The AAIDD Annual Meeting, provides researchers, clinicians, practitioners, educators, policymakers, local, state and federal agencies, and advocates with cutting edge research, effective practices, and valuable information on important policy initiatives.
In addition, SLN members will present at this year’s AAIDD conference, including a presentation by Tom Fish, John Kramer, Rachel Patterson and Barb Sapharas entitled, ” Siblings: Embracing the Complex,” and a presentation entitled, “Sibling Relationships and Support: Perspectives of Adult Siblings of People with Severe and Profound I/DD.”
