Virginia is for Siblings! is a newly formed Virginia sibling chapter of the national Sibling Leadership Network (SLN).Ā It is the 19th sibling chapter of the SLN and began officially meeting in August 2014. Virginia is for Siblings! is a collaborative between the Center for Family Involvement, The Arc of Virginia, Central Virginia Autism Society, Formed Families Forward, and NAMI’s Statewide Family Network.
Our vision is for siblings of people with disabilities to form connections, shared lived experiences, access information, utilize resources, and advocate collectively.Ā This will be accomplished through providing information, resources and systems navigation; hosting educational opportunities and social events; acting as a unified voice for improving public policy; and facilitating connections to people who have walked in their shoes.Ā We welcome ālessons learnedā and tips for holding a successful (state or local) sibling meeting.
Look in the spring for our website to go live ā www.vasibs.org and www.vasibs.com ā as well as Facebook and Twitter accounts.Ā For more information, contact Dana Yarbrough at dvyarbrough@vcu.edu
