First Sibling Ambassadors Program a Success!

The Sibling Leadership Network is thrilled to share the success of the first ever Sibling Ambassadors Program!   The Sibling Ambassadors Program is a leadership training program for adult siblings of people with disabilities.  The purpose of the program is to develop and train adult siblings to become Sibling Ambassadors of The Pennsylvania Sibling Support Network (PSSN) to grow the sibling network across Pennsylvania. Twenty-one adult siblings from across the state of Pennsylvania came together in Harrisburg, PA on September 16 and 17, 2016 for a two day leadership training.  At the training, sibling participants learned about the sibling movement and the resources available to support siblings across the lifespan in order to share this information in their region. They also connected with PSSN and learned how to build the PSSN network in their region. Finally, they developed regional action plans to support siblings and build awareness about the sibling experience in their region. As they return to their hometowns, the Sibling Ambassadors are eager to build awareness about the sibling experience by disseminating resources and information to their networks. The Sibling Ambassadors report that the Sibling Ambassadors Program provided them with information and empowerment, in addition to a great opportunity to spend 2 days connecting and building relationships with other siblings.
This project is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council. The project is led by the Sibling Leadership Network in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Sibling Support Network (PSSN) as well as the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University.
