SLN Diversity and Social Justice Committee’s Sibling Multicultural Roundtable

Events

The Diversity and Social Justice Committee of SLN hosted a Sibling Multicultural Roundtable in Chicago in March to bring together a diverse group of siblings to talk about their multiple identities and how their backgrounds have impacted their sibling experience and world view. Because disability is an identity that crosses all other identity groups, siblings of people with disabilities are members of many communities. The SLN strives to be a community that includes people of every race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, political affiliation, immigration status, socioeconomic class, and kind of disability.

SLN state chapter representatives will receive written guidelines for how to use this event as a model to create their own local multicultural roundtable discussion.
This event was the result of a collaborative effort of IL LEND trainees Anabelen and Abla (pictured below with Amy Halm),  the leadership of Alison Whyte, Katie Arnold’s facilitation, 6 wonderful sibling panelists, and support from UIC-DHD and FSRTC.
