SLN Condemns Family Separation Policy

News

The Sibling Leadership Network has joined the disability community in condemning the Trump Administration’s policy of separating families at the border, and of warehousing children and infants at the border. Separating immigrating families seeking a better life is cruel. Warehousing children can cause lasting and irreparable harm. Recent reports indicate that families may never be reunited.
Families that include children or adults with disabilities will face particularly devastating consequences from this separation and institutionalization. In the past, children with disabilities were removed from their homes and placed in institutions. Adult siblings across the US are continuing to discover and help free their siblings, some whom they didn’t know existed. The SLN and broader disability community knows firsthand the devastating consequences of these policies.
The SLN calls on the President and Congress to act immediately to reverse this policy, keep families together, and ensure the civil and human rights of all immigrants are protected, including people with disabilities.
