The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) 142nd
Annual Meeting, held June 25-28 in St. Louis, Missouri was a huge success! The
conference kicked off on Tuesday with an introduction led by Liz Perkins who gave a
talk on reaffirming diversity and inclusion. Following that, Joseph Shapiro shared his
experience including people with intellectual disability in the #MeToo Movement.
Many SLN members (Tamar Heller, Tom Fish, Meghan Burke, Chun-Yu Chiu, Sarah
Hall, John Kramer, Mayumi Hagiwara, Anna Brady, and Chung eun Lee) presented their
amazing work during the 142 nd AAIDD conference. The sibling-related research topics
included the following: person-centered planning, family-professional partnership, self-
determination of individuals with disabilities, future planning, and alternative
guardianship.
Next year, AAIDD’s 143rd Annual Meeting will be held in Twin Cities, Minnesota, from June 24-27. The AAIDD Annual Meeting, provides researchers, clinicians,
practitioners, educators, policymakers, local, state and federal agencies, and
advocates with cutting edge research, effective practices, and valuable information
on important policy initiatives.
