Dear Sibling Leadership Network Supporter:
As we prepare to share the holidays with friends and loved ones, it is a wonderful time to reflect and give thanks for all we have been blessed with over the year. For me, and I’m sure for many others, the most beautiful time of the year is coming home for the holidays. Since I live many miles from my family, returning home is a great chance to reconnect with my parents and sister who live in the Pittsburgh area. My mom is my best friend who is a little too honest but has never yet steered me wrong, my dad brings me back to my roots, and my sister is always there to share our favorite treats at our favorite coffee shop. Seeing my sister reminds me of all the good things in this world. She has a way of seeing the bright side of everything and I’m forever grateful for that. Finally, I have my fiancé, who reminds me that I’m not alone when life presents its challenges and that we are always a team.
The Sibling Leadership Network is also a family. This group is the place we as siblings come to for advice, resources and maybe even just for a conversation to remind each other that we are not alone in life’s challenges. I’ll always be grateful that I was introduced to this group years ago and that I’ve had the opportunity to learn from our leadership and members.
This year was an exciting year. One of the most rewarding weekends for me as a sibling was to attend the Sibling Leadership Network conference in St. Paul, MN. I spent the weekend with 118 other siblings and siblings’ supporters, and listening and learning from other siblings was an experience that made a true impact on me.
As you enjoy the holidays with our loved ones, I encourage you to also think of the SLN.
