Know Your Rights: People with Disabilities Can Have a Supporter in the Hospital during COVID-19

News, Policy

Under new resolutions passed this month, individuals with disabilities who have been infected with COVID-19 have the right to have a supporter with them in the hospital during treatment.
From Green Mountain Self Advocates: On June 9, 2020, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a resolution on federal complaints regarding “no visitor” policies at hospitals, clinics, and surgical facilities. The resolution reinforces that people with disabilities are not to be denied reasonable access to needed support persons.
Green Mountain Self Advocates and The Autistic Self Advocacy Network put together THIS BOOKLET and THIS VIDEO that explains these rights to self advocates and any family members interested in learning more.
