Edith and Erik recognizeĀ the importance of giving and they are passing this value down to their children. Ā What started as an annual backyard BBQ in 2014Ā to bring together family and friendsĀ became an annual fundraiser back in 2017 as a way to raise money and contribute to a charity important to them.Ā  It started out as a fun reason to gather on the last Sat of JulyĀ and has become a family tradition that has grown throughout the years.Ā They now have two kids, Olivia, 6 and Lukas, 5 who are part of this tradition.Ā  In the past they have contributed to organizations that support people with Down syndrome in honor of their son.Ā  This year, they choose an organization with their daughter in mind and to honor her sibling experience.Ā The Sibling Leadership Network is thrilled to be selected by the Fisher Family for contributions from their family fundraiser.Ā While Olivia is too young to be involved in the SLN yet, the SLN will be there for her as she gets older and can provide support at different ages and stages of life.Ā As we know, siblings often have the longest relationship of their lives with each other and both the siblings with and without disabilities will need support at times throughout the journey.Ā  Through their annual fundraiser, they are teaching their children the importance of giving back and sharing with friends and family about organizations that make a difference.Ā  Thank you to the Fisher Family and all of your family and friends for your generous contribution to the SLN!

ā€œEver since Lukas was born, Iā€™ve felt a pull to do more for and with the special needs community. Our family has met some amazing people and itā€™s all because of Lukas! Ā I work in healthcare and Iā€™ve met and worked with some pretty cool people with Down syndrome and other special needs. Ā I never thought Iā€™d have a child with special needs and never thought this would be my life (therapies, specialist appointments, IEP meetings, etc), but Iā€™m so glad I do and I would do this all over again for Lukas or Olivia. Ā To be his advocate, his voice, is such an honor and the most important job Iā€™ve ever had. Ā This may sound cliche, but Lukas and Olivia bring so much joy to our lives and their relationship is the best! Ā They teach each other so much and Iā€™m proud to say that theyā€™ve taught me a lot as well.ā€Ā -Edith, mom of Lukas and Olivia
