Bystander Intervention to Support the Disability Community in Public Spaces

The SLN has teamed up with Right To Be to create and present bystander intervention training specific to the disability community in public spaces! We are very excited to share this great opportunity with you and share some vital tools for bystander intervention! Come join us for this FREE training!

The 75-minute, interactive training will teach you the 5Ds of bystander intervention methodology. We’ll start by talking about the types of disrespect that people with disabilities or those perceived to be with disabilities are facing right now — from microaggressions to violence — using a tool we call the “spectrum of disrespect.” You will learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. We’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening.

We’ll have time at the end for practice, and you’ll leave feeling more confident intervening the next time you see ableism or disability harassment online or in person.
