March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

News

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This month offers siblings and people with disabilities the opportunity to come together and highlight the work being done to build inclusive communities where all people are supported and given the opportunity to lead quality, full lives. The theme for this year’s DD awareness month is We’re Here All Year, β€œemphasizing that community, accessibility, and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities should be recognized and championed every dayβ€”not just in March.” Now, more than ever, it is important that we raise our voices alongside our siblings and insist on protecting the supports and resources that make inclusion possible.

Our partner organizations are hosting opportunities all month long and SLN is committed to sharing these with you. You can support your sibling to submit their story to NACDD’s photo and story campaign. You can also find current event issue papers from SARTAC’s Resource Library. Feel free to post your own sibling story alongside your sibling with the hashtag #WeReHereAllYear

One of the ways the SLN is committed to supporting the disability community, this and every month, is by keeping siblings informed of current policy and advocacy issues that impact siblings and their families. Be sure to follow us on social media to get up to date information on what you can do to support these advocacy efforts.Β
