Center for Future Planning - The Arc
From The Arc’s Center for Future Planning:
“There are 600,000-700,000 families in the United States in which an adult with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD) is living with aging family members and there is no plan for the individual’s future. The Arc’s Center for Future Planning supports and encourages adults with I/DD and their families to plan for the future.
The Center offers a website that provides reliable information and practical assistance to families and individuals with I/DD on areas such as person-centered planning, decision-making, housing options, financial planning, employment and daily activities, and making social connections. The website also features stories of people and families who have created future plans or who are in the planning process.
The Center recently launched new features to the website. The first website update is the “Build Your Plan” tool, which will allow families to create accounts and begin to develop their plans within the Center. The second new feature is the Professional Services Directory, which will enable families to identify professionals in their communities that can help them create and implement future plans.
Finally, the Center also offers webinars to chapters of The Arc and other professionals who support people with I/DD to help them learn how to assist families in the future planning process. You can learn more about the resources the Center for Future Planning provides at futureplanning.thearc.org. Please contact futureplanning@thearc.org to learn more the Center’s plans to develop more resources and training opportunities.”
